Protein Engineering

The technology to design and produce novel chimeric recombinant proteins and their genes used for vaccines and immunotherapy.

Protein is a major component of biology that constructs biological structures, mediates metabolism and arouses immune response in the life system.

One of the protein functions is the function as antigen, which is closely related to the occurrence of disease and immune response. Out of the many proteins of a pathogen, specific proteins and relevant regions of the protein structure are known a core part of antigenic function. Generally, antigen acts as an immunogen to trigger immune response, and this immune response to an immunogen results in the elimination of pathogens that have invaded the organism.

One of the protein functions in the organism is the function as carrier of substances. Some substance combined carrier proteins express specific function other than simple transportation. There are many studies that report the expression and enhancement of immunogenicity of antigens when combined with carrier proteins.
For the protein to have their function, it has to be folded an accurate tertiary structure, and recombinant protein expressed in life systems such as E. coli needs to undergo refolding to attain its purpose.
